"It's elegant, useful and fun."
"...an excellent book. The articles make the reader think, even if he doesn't agree with everything in them -- which is, after all, the mark of a good editorial."
That's what readers are saying about Beyond Argument.

Cartoonist contest, Kansas City Star
Here's a look at our first Friday morning venture with an online contest to choose Saturday's political cartoon. Our cartoonist posted three sketches on different topics and let readers vote by e-mail between 9 a.m. and noon on the one he should draw for Saturday. It drew 140 votes, with the anti-Bush cartoon the victor over two local issues (stem cells and mass transit).
To promote it, we ran notices Wed-Fri. under the printed cartoon about the online contest; had the Newspaper in Education folks alert some classrooms (and four classes participated), sent a notice to our community opinions listserv, posted a refer to it on the top of the home Web page and in the KC Buzz Blog, a political blog. During the morning we tweaked it on the KC Buzz blog to run the actual images rather than just a link.
Next Friday morning it will be back in slightly altered form. Instead of asking readers to e-mail the cartoonist, we'll present it as a poll that won't require e-mail responses, a simpler format. And we'll run the images on the KC Buzz Blog all morning, as well as on the Opinion page.
