"It's elegant, useful and fun."
"...an excellent book. The articles make the reader think, even if he doesn't agree with everything in them -- which is, after all, the mark of a good editorial."

In Character Prize for editorial & opinion writing
In Character, the journal of everyday virtues published by the John Templeton Foundation, announces the establishment of a major new journalism award for editorial and opinion writing. The award recognizes the editorial treatment of the ordinary human virtues and their importance in the life of our community and country. Entries must have been published in a Unites States newspaper as an editorial or op-ed piece and should touch on the role of any of the human virtues in political or community life. The award honors writing about commonly recognized virtues such as courage, generosity, thrift, humility, honesty, tenacity, modesty, and the like. The judges will look for unique, unusual, or profound insight into the role played by these virtues in political or community life.
The award is a continuation of the mission of In Character itself as it illuminates the nature and power of everyday virtues - and how these virtues shape our vision of the good life. Published three times a year, In Character features essays by eminent thinkers and writers on science, religion, history, and society, e.g., historian Niall Ferguson, Sharon Begley, science columnist for The Wall Street Journal, and sociologist Alan Wolfe. The current issue of In Character focuses on the virtue of modesty; past issues have explored the virtues of purpose, thrift, and of creativity.
The In Character Prize aims to foster a deeper appreciation of the virtues within our communities, our families, and ourselves.
