Honoring excellence in the coverage of South Asia and outstanding reporting by South Asian journalists and students in the United States and Canada.
The annual SAJA contest has 12 categories including print, broadcast, new media, photography, commentary and student work - Including the SAJA Daniel Pearl Award for Outstanding Print Reporting on South Asia and South Asians in North America + a new one-time category: Outstanding coverage of the 2005 Pakistan earthquake.
NEW YORK, March 1, 2006 - The South Asian Journalists Association and SAJA Group Inc invites individual journalists and news organizations in North America to submit entries this year's contest of the South Asian Journalists Association. The SAJA Journalism Awards recognize excellence in coverage of South Asia, as well as outstanding reporting by South Asian journalists in the U.S. and Canada.
The 2006 Awards, which are open to media companies headquartered in the U.S and Canada, consist of 12 categories, including print, photography, new media, broadcast, editorials and student work. All work must have been published, aired or posted to a website in 2005. Non-published/aired student entries must be accompanied by a professor's note stating the work was executed for a class.
The 2006 Awards will also include a special one-time category honoring the best coverage of the 2005 Pakistan earthquake and its aftermath. The SAJA Pakistan Earthquake Coverage Awards will recognize outstanding work by any freelance journalist or news organization based in North American covering the disaster.
All entries must be postmarked no later than Monday, April 17, 2006.

The awards will presented at SAJA's 12th Annual Convention held in New York City, July 13-16, 2006. SAJA will notify the winners approximately 4-5 weeks in advance. More on the convention: http://www.saja.org/events/convention2006.html
