Return to Job BankJ09-2 The Corpus Christi (Texas) Caller-Times
The Corpus Christi (Texas) Caller-Times seeks an experienced Viewpoints/Opinion editor with a strong writing background.
Our new Viewpoints/Opinion editor will be responsible for overseeing our 1.5 editorial/opinion pages daily. This would include writing editorials with a heavy emphasis on local and statewide issues. This person would lead the discussion at the twice-weekly editorial board sessions, edit letters to the editor and would have the freedom to write a weekly Sunday column. This editor also would oversee the selection of daily columns with an emphasis on providing a wide variety of viewpoints and would strive to maintain a balance of ideologies.
There is some degree of public interaction, and we emphasize that the Caller-Times (circulation 73,000 Sunday; 53,000 daily) wants to help lead community debate at a key time for the area.
A college degree and 7 years' daily newspaper experience is preferred, and Spanish fluency is a plus.
The Caller-Times, owned by E.W. Scripps, pays competitive salary and benefits.
The paper consistently is among the top award winners in the region for a mid-sized daily. It also has been chosen best newspaper in Texas in its class (circulation 30,000-124,999) in the Texas APME contest five of the past six years and best online Web site three of the past five years and has garnered numerous individual awards, both in print and online.
